I found myself oddly attracted to the front end. Different look.

That one really confused me. Why would you have half of the body kit installed and painted but not the whole thing? If it was a work in progress I could almost wrap my head around it, but to have it painted while half done? That’s strange.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 12:58 |

I like the body kit. I even kinda like the green paint. I just can’t fathom why someone would go to that effort and expense and NOT FINISH IT.
Oh wait, yeah I can. They screwed up the paint on the bumper cover (or just plain broke it) and ran out of money.

Must be a couple 12 packs in the trunk for the wheels to bow out like that.
Oh, they did it on purpose.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 12:58 |

Yeah the whole thing is odd. I don’t “hate” the front end, but the combination of luggage rack and unfinished rear is baffling.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 13:01 |
|
Uh, have you been to an autocross? That’s a functional amount of camber for an NA.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 13:04 |
|
That thing goes to autocross as much as my fintail.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 13:06 |
|
Heh.
That whole package is a huge flaming crack pipe at that price. “ $3k in body panels” means nothing.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 13:28 |
|
Yeah, looks like the bumper fell off, probably somewhere between this sucks and no taste.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 13:42 |
|
I kinda like the rear taillights actually, not going to lie...
![]() 05/01/2020 at 13:50 |
|
As I said in the comments of the original article...
Don’t. Buy. Someone. Else’s. Project.
I get that this is a “style” some people go after. We can thank companies like Rocket Bunny for that. But it looks less than half-assed to me. Maybe q uarter-assed.

The ad states that he has the painted bumper but for whatever reason the guy liked the look of it without the bumper (even wrote LOL afterwards) so he kept it that way. Car comes with bumper and 2 crates of spare parts...doesn’t seem too bad a price if it is as clean and put together as he claims.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 13:54 |
|
No, he apparently liked it. I’m not defending the guy’s decision at all but ad clearly states that sale comes with paint matched rear bumper that he left off on purpose...which certainly makes me question other decisions he might have made.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:18 |

I mean I never autocrossed my turbo NA on $40 chinese tires but adding 3 degrees of camber massively improved the handling around town. It’s just a thing you do to NAs. Like advancing the timing and running 91.

Don’t buy someone else’s project when they’re not finished would be my addendum. If someone has driven their project 5,000 or so miles- sure.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:21 |
|
Just because he likes it without doesn’t mean he should sel it that way. Put the bumper on for the sale I would say.
I voted CP based on the bumper situation and the lack of AC.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:24 |
|
I’ll admit I didn’t read the ad, so I missed that. Okay, it comes with the bumper, painted, so that’s good. I agree though - makes me have to question whether other decisions were equally bad. :)
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:26 |
|
Less risky, sure. Especially if those 5,000 miles are fairly recent and trouble-free. If you put 5k miles on it over the course of 10 years because it was broken more often than running, a little different. Or if everything was redone in someone’s garage and no longer resembles a factory product in any manner, that can often bring massive issues down the road.
But yes, I understand what you are saying.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:38 |

Yeah... the top half of the rear looks fine, the bottom half looks like ass.

“The ad states that he has the painted bumper but for whatever reason the guy liked the look of it without the bumper”
Either the seller is brain-damaged or the REAL reason is the bumper or how it’s supposed to mount is fucked up in some way.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:43 |
|
I would agree with you. Not defending the guy, simply laying out the complete situation here. My main concern being if this is the type of guy who drives a car around thinking that it not having a bumper is aesthetically pleasing, then what other horrible decisions has he made with it that are less visible?
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:53 |
|
Yeah... if this was finished, with a rear bumper installed, working A/C, all guages working, nice seats to match the door cards, a nice steering wheel WITH an airbag and nice looking exhaust tips, THEN it might be worth the asking price.
And speaking of exhaust tips... I have a hunch that the current exhaust setup just might be the reason why the seller left the rear bumper off... it probably doesn’t line up properly.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 14:54 |
|
Or he had the exhaust done and then wanted to install the bumper... and the exhaust didn’t line up properly with the cutouts in whatever bumper the seller has.

My Miata probably has that much camber too. Track Miatas love camber.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 15:07 |

You must have fast roads in your town.
Back in the day when the fintail had worn kingpins, it had funny camber too, and chewed up front tires. I didn’t notice any handling gains :)
![]() 05/01/2020 at 15:07 |
|
I don’t think this is a track car though. It’s just trying hard.
![]() 05/01/2020 at 15:12 |

I wonder where those tailights are from....they look ‘70s European FIAT-y...

cool story bro

The seller got it from here:

Oh, cool!
![]() 05/01/2020 at 20:05 |

Almost as cool as needing camber for city streets :)
![]() 05/01/2020 at 22:45 |

Gotta show off the butterfly tramp stamp...
![]() 05/01/2020 at 23:08 |

If handling is what you enjoy, might as well make it better even if you rarely use it all. Drawing comparisons between a 60 year old mercedes and a Miata’s handling is almost as dumb as the assertion that 3 degrees of camber in a sports car is excessive. It’s a perfectly functional amount and very, very common for the platform.

The comment was about autocross and the pictured car, which from all I can see is not an autocross competitor. For that one, it appears to be for looks. I am surprised it doesn’t have an insta tag sticker on one of the windows. Lyfestyle. If one isn’t using it, why do it, other than to give the image that you’re sporty? Like I joked, I bet the pictured car hits the track as frequently as my old car.
However, I concede that one is free to do what they want with their car. And one is free to snark about it :)
![]() 05/03/2020 at 10:54 |

Yeah, pit crew Miatas never get used for performance reasons. my bad.
![]() 05/03/2020 at 14:35 |

My bad, I thought we were talking about the car in question here, which sees the same amount of track time as my old car.
